Cleaning and Care Guide

ABOUT YOUR OUT-FOXXX RUBBER WEAR

When you receive you Out-Foxxx Rubber wear it will have already been pre-cleaned with an antibacterial cleaner and pre-treated with a Dimethylsiloxane and Polydimethylsiloxane polish meaning the garment is protected and ready to wear. The polish will help the easy entry, application, and fitting of the outfit.

Latex clothing will serve you for a long time if you take a good care of it. If you are new to the world of latex do not worry, this may seem like a lot of information to take in, but you will naturally start to memorise it with experience.

Natural latex rubber is made from the sap of a rubber tree. Although it goes through some processing before it is turned into a usable fabric, it is still a natural material and will react like one if exposed to certain elements.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER

  • Do NOT pull on the latex or any latex straps as it could rip or tear easily.
  • Make sure you are not pulling on the latex or latex straps as these can tear at pressure points such as around eyelets and T5 Kam Snap press studs.
  • Ensure you open all press studs by placing both your thumb tips against the joined parts of the fastener and your forefingers on the outside facia of the fastener. Gently push the two parts of the fastener apart. NEVER open fasteners by pulling on the latex.
  • Keep away from any source of moisture, heat, all metals, and direct sunlight.
  • Moisture will cause latex to gradually rot, heat will start to melt it, metals cause permanent staining and sunlight will bleach it. Do not be tempted to hang your latex outside or on radiators and do not tumble dry.
  • All oils are damaging to latex and will cause staining (with exception of silicone oils). For this reason, avoid using body moisturisers and self-tans before wear. It is also good practice to wash, or wipe clean your garment after use as sweat and body oils can over time gradually damage latex.
  • Do not use perfumes or antiperspirants when wearing your garment, these products contain a mixture of chemicals that can react with latex. Latex fabric does not breathe so sweating is unavoidable. Do not worry about it though, a little perspiration usually creates a nice feeling between you and the snug fabric, it makes it more flexible and therefore more comfortable to wear.
  • Store in a dark dry place away from metals and metal hangers. A garment bag is ideal, plastic bag will do the job too. You can store similar colours together in the same bag but do not mix as the bright and dark colours will bleed onto the lighter ones. If you are using a plastic bag, avoid the printed ones. No one wants to see a supermarket logo printed on their latex.
  • Take time and care when putting on your latex clothing, latex can easily tear or damage if you are not careful with nails or jewellery. Talcum powder or silicone oil can ease the process. Do not rush pull or roll, just gently and gradually pull and shift until it is sitting correctly in the right place.

NICOTINE, TAR & SMOKE

Latex will easily pick up scents from smoking and smoking areas. These aromas are extremely hard to eliminate from latex and can cause damage to the integrity of the garment.

  • If you can avoid it we recommend you try not smoke whilst wearing latex and don't wear latex in clubs or events that allow smoking indoors.
  • Nicotine can also leave yellow staining so make sure to wash your hands after a cigarette before handling latex.
  • If you find that your latex is stained with cigarette smell no need to panic, it will go over time if not exposed to more smoke. No amount of soapy water will help you at this stage.
  • You might be able to find some odour absorbing fabric/drier sheets in your local supermarket to store with your latex.
  • Another option would be to put it in a bag with some scrap pieces of latex. The scrap latex absorbs some of the smell from the stained garment - making the process a little faster.

CARING FOR YOUR PRODUCT

These care instructions are as a guide only, we recommend cleaning and protecting your garments after each wear and storing them safely away from natural light, damp, and exposure to heat and chemicals, to keep them at their best wear after wear.

Wash the latex thoroughly after wearing. Using a quality latex polish ensures a long lasting, visible deep shine and provides intensive care for all latex and rubber products. It perfects the latex feeling on the skin. Quality polishes are solvent-free and odourless.

We personally recommend Vivishine as the optimal basis for the shine and care of latex. Ideally, the cleaner/polish is added in the rinsing water right after washing, and thus distributed perfectly over the entire surface of the material. The application is particularly simple, economical, and effective. This process protects the sensitive latex surface and preserves it at the same time as there is no friction created during polishing.

After treatment with latex polish, the latex clothing can easily be hung in the closet or stored in a garment bag. When dressing, the latex clothing shines from the roots and the surface feels smooth. With proper care and a quality polish your latex outfits will remain permanently shiny, smooth, and graceful as on the first day.

We recommend using a product such as Viviclean, although other brands are available. A dedicated latex cleaner is the most suitable for the purposes of cleaning your rubber wear, as it not only washes gently and thoroughly but also cleans hygienically and removes germs and bacteria. This prevents the formation of bacteria, sweat or the like in the material. It is best to take off the latex under the shower and wash it.  If you do not have a dedicated latex cleaner, then using a little diluted washing-up liquid mixed with a few drops of distilled vinegar is quite effective.   Try to avoid strongly fragranced cleaners or those with a natural perfume as essential oils can damage the coating on latex.

Condition your latex after washing it. Run a few litres of clear warm water into a clean, grease free bowl. Add some Vivishine or an alternative latex polish to the water. The latex should be bathed in it for a short time, so that all areas are evenly wetted.

  • If using a kitchen sink degrease the area thoroughly and wash away any soap scum and residue before cleaning your latex, as grease and oil will destroy latex.
  • Take care if washing in a bathtub to remove any residue of bubble-bath or bath salts residue, as this will damage latex.
  • If washing in a shower tray or bathtub ensure you clean the whole area thoroughly after washing your garments as Silicone, Dimethylsiloxane and Polydimethylsiloxane based cleaners are extremely slippery and can remain on surfaces after rinsing.
  • We recommend removing residual latex polish solution from surfaces using a block laundry soap, salt and degreasing washing liquid or mineral (white) spirit and paper towels.

Allow your latex to dry off after conditioning. Shake off the surplus water off the latex and let it hang up for a few hours to dry and air out. With hard water (chalky water), it is recommended to dab the water drops with a towel. We recommend leaving in an airy, warm, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once dried off the latex will be smooth and sensual to the touch and a perfect shine is ready.

  • Take care to handle your latex gently and do not rub or scrub any marks.
  • If you notice any seams starting to lift slightly these need to be re adhered before future use as this can cause a weakness in the outfit. It is important to note… This is not a fault. It simply means that the solvent or glue base has lifted or parted, usually through stretching during wear. Water based glues are particularly susceptible to this. Latex polish can prevent glue from sticking and if the polish has been able to get under the glue seam it will cause the seam to open.
  • At Out-Foxxx we only use latex adhesive and do not use water-based glues as all our products are made to function and be worn and used as the colours are intended. We rigorously test our designs for durability and comfort.

CLEANER DOSAGE GUIDE

Polydimethylsiloxane based cleaners are particularly economical to use. The latex surface is wetted and protected by a very thin and very uniform protective layer, thus avoiding a greasy surface that can happen in many other cases.

  • For a Catsuit, it is sufficient to add about one tablespoon of Vivishine or other dedicated latex polish to the tub or wash sink with clear lukewarm water. The amount of water is rather unimportant: a few litres will suffice, just so the latex can be well immersed in it.
  • After pulling the latex, it is immediately noticeable how the water bubbles form and a shiny surface appears. The latex then feels glossy and smooth without sticking together.
  • If oily droplets can still be seen after shaking off the water drops then the dosage was too high. While this is not too bad, it attracts lint in more than necessary.
